INTRODUCTON The world's most popular mobile platform, Android was initially designed to serve the mobiles and tablets but however with its latest development this operating system has seen additional applications on televisions, games panel accommodating controls for electronic equipment. They are Cupcake - Android 1.5 Donut - Android 1.6 Éclair - Android 2.0 and 2.1 Froyo (frozen yogurt) - Android 2.2 Gingerbread - Android 2.3 Honeycomb - Android 3.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - Android 4.0 Jelly Bean - Android 4.1 to 4.3 Kit Kat - Android 4.4 Cupcake - Android 1.5 Android 1.5 versions which was launched on April 2009 and was commercially named as Cupcake. With lot of innovations this version was very supportive for Features like widgets, Bluetooth, camcorder functions, new upload services like YouTube, Picasa and folders on the homescreens.This stable and secure version was the trend setter for the dessert based code naming which is even followed today. The main feature of this version of the Android platform was its live and updatable widgets along with text prediction and user dictionaries. Apart from Android's own real keyboard, it also had the third party keyboards giving free hand for the developers as an additional feature. The updatable widgets of the cupcake model include an analogue clock, a calendar, a music player, a picture frame and a search function. This version used lot of multimedia through which animation and transition of the screen was done. Photos and videos can be updated and shared directly from the phone to YouTube, Picasa, MMS and email. The 1.5 version supported the MPEG4 and 3GP formats. Donut - Android 1.6 The Donut version of the Android platform was released on Sept 2009.Though it was not very much ahead of the Cupcake version but still had some improvised gadgets which added to its features. The most distinctive attribute of this model was the display of the battery usage thus enabling the user to get to know the mobiles power. Other improvement includes virtual Private Network (VPN) support and more Wi-Fi security options. Apart from the Google search functions for the text and voice, this model was also able to take in search your bookmarks, history, contacts,apps, folders etc.The search functions was able to assign importance of the earlier search result selections. The speed of the camera along with gallery speed was increased and this time they had the option of multiple photo selection and deletion.

Éclair - Android 2.0 and 2.1 Android 2.0 and its updated 2.1 version were released on Oct 2009 with no major alterations in the Linux kernel base but with slight updated extension in certain key areas. In this model the users were able to add and synch multiple email, account inboxes and contact details. Later when the Eclair version was upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1, the later was able to support the Bluetooth feature which helped in quick file transfers. Multiple options like call, text, email was available for a single contact card. There was an option of enabling deletion of the old messages once inbox crosses a certain limit. Froyo (frozen yogurt) - Android 2.2 The 2.2 Froyo versions were launched in 2010, May with lot enhancements and were leading very much ahead in the mobile platform competition. The speed and the stability of the applications were increased to a great extent which was at least six times more than the earlier version. The Froyo version was able to adapt or connect other external devices like USB and Wi-Fi hotspot to the internet. Android with the Froyo version can run the flash player and one can have a photo gallery to view pictures. Wiping of the data’s was possible for security reasons in case of lost handsets. There were shortcuts given to the navigation bar and also file uploaded from the web by the increased speed of the browser. Another prominent feature of this model was the automatic updating of the already installed applications. Screens with higher pixel densities were also supported. Gingerbread - Android 2.3 Android 2.3 versions named Gingerbread were launched six months later after the Froyo model was introduced. This platform was mainly designed with keeping tablets as its base. Honeycomb has a large screen which provides more space for the widgets with the home and the back keys at the bottom as two spots. The screen also provides the users with system information’s like date, time and connectivity. There are two bars, the action and the system bars where through the former one can gain access to e individual apps and widgets where the later carries the navigation buttons and shows notifications. Switching between applications is very quick in this platform. Connectivity from the mobile to other external USB accessories like digital cameras, gamepads, rhythmpads and keyboards are possible. Flash is very well handled in the Honeycomb. Apart from the VoIP in Google talk the platforms are made available for video calls if the tablet is compatible to the mobile. Ice Cream Sandwich - Android 4.0 Android 4.0 versions was launched on Oct 2011 and got an updating in March 2012.This can be characterized with features similar to that of the Honeycomb but with more of enhancement and refinement like multitasking, panoramic view supported by the camera, connecting to social network by sharing the profile. The screens can be altered for the individual’s requirement and also the widgets can be altered. There are face locks for the video chatting in the Google talk. The battery management is very efficient were warnings are given and once the credit limit is crossed the usage of the data is cancelled. The mobile gives a shutter sound when shots are captured in the screen. Samsung Galaxy Nexus was the first device which came up with the launching of the Android 4.0 version. Jelly Bean - Android 4.1 to 4.3 version 4.1 of Android is code named as Jelly Bean and was launched in June 2012.This most enhanced and efficient version is been noted for all its new features like speed,elegancy,a total redesigned camera,spontaneoous response, photo sphere, keyboard and Google searches. The opening and switching between applications are extremely fast and effortless.
